17 entrants for today’s racing at Lake Rua with a cool light easterly prevailing. We managed 8 heats 1 of two laps, the remainder of three laps. Historically, mark roundings at Lake Rua have caused issues with comments about the marks being too far away, so in a futile attempt to ease the difficulties, Tony Taylor and I set a shortish course at the north end with the two rounding marks as close to the sailors as possible. Alas, there were still too many infringements but it was interesting to see the podium placers doing all in their power to avoid entanglements and mostly stay out of trouble.
Thanks go to everyone who helped out with various activities over the day such as launching and retrieving boats and marks. The help is appreciated and makes the work of the race officials much easier. I wonder if our visionary committee members can think up a way to create a safe launching system before boats and/or sailors get damaged. The current launching area is dangerous and unsatisfactory for the majority of our aging clientele, (speaking as an Octogenarian).
