Victoria-J (vJ) development and status.
The Victoria-J was developed to make the building a J-class boat an easier project. It has an internal lead keel incorporated into the fiberglass hull (by contrast, the original J-class hull has an external lead keel which is bolted on, and then shaped/fared).
The “plug” was made, with permission, from a “Nottingham-J”, developed In the UK, by Alan Horne. The name given to this new hull is: “Victoria-J”, or vJ. Note that the nJ-hull came from a mould derived from a Canterbury-J hull.
vJs were initially built using the cJ Class Rules (other than the keel arrangement). Numbering of vJs is sequential starting from vJ-1. Because of minor differences, the vJ is considered to be a new class. Therefore, it cannot sail in CJCOA organised events.
The vJ boat is not constrained by the Canterbury J class rules. To build one, you will need to buy the vJ fibreglass hull. A lead keel and “trim weight” can also be supplied. The vJ is a development class for the inventive boat builder to create a faster boat.
