Opening Day 2026-27 Season. The Opening Day racing was held after a very eventful AGM in weather that turned from a freezing southerly into a very pleasant sunny afternoon,
I was called in to cover for Clyde, and Chris Greer was my very able assistant race officer. We set a very simple course using one top mark and one bottom mark as well as the start finish line.
It was great to see very few incidents as the upwind and downwind boats did their very best to avoid conflict. Most miscreants performed penalty turns when necessary.
We ran a 2 fleet mass start which worked fine for the 20 entrants and then the countdown timer decided to go awol. However with a bit of ingenuity and Chris verbally counting up the 50 secs for the 2nd fleet, we managed to cope just fine. We got through 8 heats.
The top 3, Ron, Polly and Jim showed great skills in handling the shifty variable breeze and many others had moments of brilliance but were not as consistent as the podium placers, so well done everybody.
Nice biscuits left over from the AGM were eagerly devoured. Glen PRO
