The Canterbury J  is currently the predominant class hosted by the Christchurch Model Yacht Club. The class is administered by the Canterbury J Class Owner’s Association. More information can be found on the Association’s website HERE

It arose from an idea hatched in 1997 when Dave Heanly introduced J-1 “Shamrock” to Victoria Lake. It was an immediate solution for an affordable, easily transported, and competitive one design RC boat that could sail in our weedy summer waters.  With National Class recognition of the Canterbury J-Class Yacht, and with boat numbers passing the 370 mark, it is easy to see why this class has appealed to so many.
