Greetings CMYC members,

Today started off really hot with no wind but a SW wind blustered through before sailing began and was all over the place before easing and steadying to very pleasant sailing breeze. Roy was RO assisted by Cliff and they set a nice long 2 lap course which was very pleasant to sail. The start was a mass start which was very tricky unless you had extra good vision and boat handling skills. But there were not many starting incidents that I saw. And ……our behaviour stakes are still intact and healthy, which makes me glad.

Congratulations to our race committee for doing a great job today, and congratulations to the podium placers,, Polly, Ron B and myself.

Soon I will be compiling the new sailing program for next season, and those who sail reasonably regularly on Saturdays will be press ganged onto race committees to run Saturday races. If age or poor health makes you dubious about tackling the job please contact me fairly soon. If you have certain dates you know you cannot be available, again let me know. If you sail big boats and want the summers left free, please let me know.

I have some sad news for you all. My friend Selwyn Taylor, started sailing from scratch about 2 years ago and has asked me to let you know he has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer to avoid any confusion on his health. The prognosis is not good as he has been given about 3 months to live. Selwyn sails J 20 and J 153 and hopes to sail as much and long as he can and he has accepted this tragic circumstance very, very, well and is taking a very practical outlook on it all. Selwyn is very well known in the music scene, and has been a top quality drummer for many decades, and the music lovers are giving great support to him and family. If you see Selwyn at the lake, don’t shy away, he would love to have a yarn with you all.
