Today we had a lovely spring day with predicted Nor Westerlies. The Assistant Race Officer Rob was there on time with the keys and most requirements to enable the day’s sailing to go smoothly had been sorted.

With a little help from Graham Raxworthy on the computer, the PRO (me) decided to set out a trapezium with a staggered start line to ensure no favoured end. At first the wind varied from North West to South and it seemed that the course set out would be satisfactory. However, after some pressure from Churchy (tsk tsk) the second top mark was dropped to a triangle.

The fleet of 20 started on 3 starts and in most cases the fleet stayed behind the starting line. The PRO being very active at recalls. The wind as Polly would say oscillated about 180 degrees until Church and the sailing master suggested that the fleet head east. The furthest mark 4 now being used, still a triangle. Racing was exciting from a spectator perspective.. But it was easy to get focused as to who was winning from fleet one rather than the overall result. Incidentally, Fleet one seemed to share first over the line. After six races a lot of members were pleasantly surprised that 360 Tony Parmenter took 1st overall or should I say equal with Polly Third going to Brian Treleaven. Of note was Roy 275 who was noticeable by his time in the shed and his absence from any recorded finishes.

There were a few collisions, which in most cases were resolved. However Bruce successfully protested Chris (I don’t like your hat Nick) over an infringement at a mark. Please note it is the right of all of you to be heard and for the race to be held up for a protest. Protests at the end of the day keeps us honest. Another point which I know that Brian has already covered is that there is no buoy room on an upwind marker.
