Colin Freeman (RO) and Chris Stricker (RA) ran a beautiful afternoon’s racing today.
The weather was balmy and the competitors well behaved overall. By the time I got home I felt like I had been sailing on the harbour or somewhere else- sunburned, mentally wrung out, and feeling pretty good.
Maybe because I did a bit better than usual, who knows. The first few heats were quite a lottery due to lack of wind, and there were some big stationary groups hoping to go somewhere at the first mark, and wondering why other boats were not getting out of their way. Well it is fact of nautical science that sailing vessels must be moving through the water for the rudder to work.
After a shortened course for a couple fo heats a zephyr of a breeze started to pick up and things became a bit more orderly. Meanwhile the sun continued to blaze down on us and challenge Rax’s bandit-mask which was supposed to keep his damaged lip safe.
7 Heats had Ron Bedyn on the podium, with Polly Parratt and Graeme Raxworthy to keep him company. From what I saw, penalties were well called, and executed, although it was interesting to see that hitting a buoy was often difficult to see by the skipper, but plenty of advice was given anyway.
A great day all round, Thanks again Colin and Chris.
