Greetings members,
Yesterday the club was busy with a “TRY SAILING” day and the CMYC EC12 championships. We had a wonderful NE wind all day which was great for sailing, now I can’t comment on the Try Sailing because Peter Fisher and I were race committee for the EC12 event. We divided the lake in two, one part for the Try Sailing and the other part for the EC12’s, of course you would have guessed that the Race committee was concerned that the Try Sailing public may have showed more skill than our EC12 sailors, something we deemed should remain hidden, thus the lake division.
However I can comment on the EC12 event. It was our club championships, not a provincial event, so only CMYC members could participate and I have to laud the class and sailors that with a fleet of 8 boats it was a very high percentage of turnout of all EC12’s in our club. The sailing started at 11am and finished about 2.30pm, with the full 12 heats completed…..and we did not have one individual recall all day nor any general recalls, furthermore, the thing that impressed me was the good manners of all the sailors, there was no bickering or ill feeling apparent. So despite my traditional disparagement of the class secretly they were an inspiration for the race committee. Generally the racing was close, but soon Chris Koskela showed his dominance, pushed hard by Cliff Bishop.
