Hi All. An enjoyable day was had by the hardy few who found their way to Victoria Waters, getting past all the security for the Electric Avenue Music Festival which was being held at the same time in North Hagley Park. Our access was via Riccarton Avenue. Our count-down starter was competing to have the loudest beat, which was loud at times.
The race officers were Rodney Ford & Peter Fisher.
Ten sailors were up for the challenge and had a moderately strong NE to ENE wind straight down the lake and a windward-leeward course was set with an inside to out gate at the bottom which was well received. The program showed the racing to be A, B & C fleets, but because such a small number turned up it was agreed to make the heats Mass Start. Poly ruled the day, but it was surprising how close the sailing was, with no real stragglers. The first heat was just two laps then it was decided to extend to three laps and seven heats were completed. Everyone was well mannered, we heard no disputes, and penalties were observed to be completed. Congratulations Graeme Parratt, Ron Bedyn & Al Ross for making it to the podium.
Peter Knight has done some more work on the Lakeside Program, thank you Peter, and the handicaps have now been extended to 140 seconds, so make sure you check your handicap because it may have changed. Poly & Ron are now on 140 seconds so the rest of us now have a better chance of beating them.
Thank you to Cliff and Poly for putting out the marks and retrieving them.
While this was all going on, Warwick was beavering away plastering the walls of the Bunker which is starting to look fantastic and should be a great asset to our club. Thank you, Warwick.
Peter Fisher
