Today’s racing for the Dolphin Pennant was held in a pleasant light to moderate breeze which was oscillating in both direction and strength, which created numerous passing lanes, and absorbing racing.

Before the racing got underway and for the first one or two races there were a few light showers, and the race officers struggled to keep their seats dry…. So it was like dinghy sailing again with wet backsides.  With Polly being part of the officiating team,  there was no absolutely dominant sailor and there were a variety of race winners.

A triangular course of two laps, including a distance mark  at mark 1, resulted in fairly clean sailing, and most sailors completed their penalties.

The race officials had some moments of great hilarity, as after at the end of race one, we could not find a particular contestant’s sail number to mark as being entered.  However by clever deduction, it was realised that in fact this contestant had registered as Derek Kraak!  So for the rest of the series, Polly and Dayele were cheering on Derek Kraak, who did make some fine sailing manoeuvres, and had some  good results, but not enough to reach the podium….  So his identity shall remain a secret……

New member Chris Biddle sailing Ralph’s old boat had some excellent results considering thus was his first outing at the club.  Welcome Chris! A great start ……

Congratulations to Ron Bedyn and Cliff Bishop for reaching the podium! Race Officer Dayele, and assistant Polly had a good day in the main, with a lot of banter, and all went well until the Race officer did not pick up that the memory stick was plugged into the wrong slot in the computer…. But with Peter Fisher’s  help, all ended well and we got the results out.

Cheers Dayele
