Another lovely day at CMYC for the 21 skippers who registered for the day’s racing. After the Grand Opening of Norm’s Shed by our Patron, Mayor Phil Mauger, and fortified with expertly BBQ’d sausages cooked by Ron Bedyn, we got into the serious part of the day.

A gentle southerly prevailed so race officers Me and Ralph Biggs set up a deceptively simple up and down course, with a mark at the southerly end and a gate at the motherly end, 2 laps, Mark Foy. We congratulated ourselves on the set up, as the back marker Ron Bedyn off 120, was catching the fleet in most races and there were plenty of tight finished which showed the fleet had come together. Rather sedate sailing at times required intense concentration and wind awareness, which paid off most of the time.

It was a sign of the intensity that we heard hardly any banter during racing, but plenty in the pre-start. An impressively high level of behaviour showed during the times when the fleet was crossing each other after mark rounding. Congratulations to podium places for Polly, Dayele and Chris Stricker. After 5 heats it was time for a cuppa and some biscuits, and off to watch the All Whites. Thanks Ralph for being a great RO, and to Ron Bedyn for getting the marks in at the end.
