Race report for Saturday October 31st
Today’s racing was a 1,2,3 fleet format where the three fleets were grouped with boats with higher Mark Foy numbers starting off zero, the other two fleets grouped by MF numbers, at 50 second intervals. Sailing was held in a dying southerly breeze that was threatening to change to easterly during most of the races.
Race Officers Dayele and Mark Cornell were a bit lazy, and set a long course using the existing outer duck and eastward permanent orange mark, with just one extra course mark positioned in a place where there appeared to be reasonable breeze most of the time….. plus of course the start finish marks. It seemed to work OK as during most races we had easterly wind at the easterly end of the course and southwest wind at the western end of the course, and a mish mash of conditions in the middle, which helped mix up the fleet a bit. However we had enough windward beats on the day, that most seemed to enjoy the sailing.
While Polly topped the Podium as usual, followed by Bryan and Ron Campbell, the places after that make very interesting reading, especially in the corrected handicap results. Here we see that relative newcomers dominated the top positions, with Rob Woolley, Malcolm Buchanan, and Jeff Fenwick joined Roy Bickerstaffe. It’s great to see Ron and Malcolm with their own built boats starting to make their presence felt. Well done guys….
