Chris Greer Reports: It was a festive and competitive atmosphere for the Saturday, December 20, 2025, Xmas Race, hosted under the leadership of Race Officers Chris Greer and Derek Kraak. Despite the light winds, cool breeze, and occasional afternoon rain, spirits remained high—aided by a gazebo provided by Derek to keep the timing equipment and officials dry.
Race Format & Highlights:The day featured a Mark Foy event (pursuit racing) on a spacious four-buoy course. The layout, characterized by two long runs, offered spectators a clear view of the tactical action.
- Tactics: The changeable weather led to frequent lead changes, making for a “mixed bag” of results.
- Fair Play: The wide-open course layout successfully minimized collisions and penalties, ensuring clean racing throughout the afternoon.
Results
- Main Event Winner: Graeme Raxworthy took 1st place with an outstanding performance.
- Podium Finishers: Alan Anderson followed in 2nd, with Dayele Hobson securing 3rd.
- The Xmas Cash Dash: In a new tradition, the top 8 yachts from the 22-boat fleet competed in a final shootout. Bryan Treleaven emerged victorious, claiming the $50 cash prize.
Social and Holiday Cheer:The community spirit was on full display with a pre-race BBQ hosted by Ron and a post-race “Xmas Shout” provided by Derek Kraak as a gesture of thanks to the members for their support throughout 2025.
Looking Ahead:While the holiday season is in full swing, the club remains active. Racing will continue this coming Monday and Wednesday, providing a perfect opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy the yachting with friends.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all members!
