Today’s racing was very exciting and also challenging for everyone, including the Race Officer and assistant. Having been set a two lap triangular course, a mainly brisk easterly breeze allowed participants to get around the track faster than expected, allowing us to complete 8 heats by 3.30pm.
The variable pressure and massive oscillations in direction was a great leveller to contestants, making it very difficult for the faster boats to progress through the fleet, and as a result, leading placegetters in each heat tended to be from the early starters. The Race officers were really kept on their toes as well, and in most heats, multiple sailors were crossing the finish line with just millimetres between the boats…. Well done assistant Murray Pearce for clear calls at the finish.
Congratulations to the top three, Bob Torrie, whose consistency carried the day, heading off Rax, who took a couple of races to optimise his newly launched vJ 12. And Roy, also showed a consistent performance elevated him to third on the podium….. well done guys!! Apologies to all, for the Race Officer’s tardiness in being unable to extract the race results in a timely manner, meaning that your enjoyment of afternoon cuppa and bikkie was spoilt, and poor Bob missed out on his chance for bragging rights….. The R.O. is embarking on a crash course on extracting the results, to ensure that when he is back on duty next month, the race results will be displayed in a jiffy….Regards Dayele
