UP Date 11/2/21

Dear Members,

This email is to update you on CMYC developments, following our most recent committee meeting.
1. COVID Status.
It is easy to forget how lucky we are with the current freedoms under Level 1. The rest of the world’s model yachters are mainly freezing in a bad winter, and/or in lockdown. We are a vulnerable group and it would be easy for COVID to spread among us.
Level 1 recommendations relevant to us include Maintaining Good Hygiene, Keeping Track of Where You Have Been, and Keeping Your Distance.
Keeping good hygiene is why we have removed the cups from the club house, as we can’t always wash them in hot water. There is also hand sanitiser available for your use.
Keep track of where you have been by scanning the QR code on the door.
Keeping your distance is quite hard unless you have a really fast or really slow boat but try your best….
2. Non-member participation.
Just a reminder that newcomers are OK for about 3 sailing sessions before they should join the club.
Yellow flags are available for attaching to boats of inexperienced sailors to help the rest of the fleet give them room and explain the rules (nicely of course).
Swapping boats or skippers rules apply, and were explained by the Sailing Master recently.
3. Lifejackets
We are replacing the old lifejacket with 2 new ones. 1 small and 1 large. Fit is important so anyone using the dinghy should wear the one that fits best.
4. Membership
There are now 97 paid-up members.
5. Health and Safety.
CJCOA have generously assisted with advice on our H&S policy, which CCC requires. A copy is posted in the clubhouse near the battery charger.
CCC have repaired the bricks, and members have trimmed some low branches from trees that were becoming hazardous.
6. Special General Meeting.
This meeting to adopt some amendments to our constitution will be held on Wednesday March 3, during the lunch break, at the club. Seperate notice has been sent. Let me know if you would like to vote by proxy.
Please contact me or any committee member if you would like further information.
Best regards,

Al Ross
Secretary, Christchurch Model Yacht Club
